Everything Has To End Somewhere
Things in Herds

Not realising the awesome power of weheartmusic, after bragging about the loving the Cumbrian sun, it now rains and it pours outside…

With that in mind, I thought I'd introduce you to a two-piece folk band I found many years ago on myspace, Things In Herds.

Their music captures the beauty of a rainy day so perfectly. I imagine Pete and Miss Ping can be heard roaming the fields of Brighton with their own brand of DIY folk music.

The most obvious comparison in my mind is with the now popular, but tragically dead, Nick Drake. They may also appeal to fans of Great Lake Swimmers. But these two folkies should be taken as you find them. Having assisted me through broken hearts, a bruised ego and, generally, a couple of blue days, I recommended them to you.

No longer as DIY as they used to be, Pete and Miss Ping are now tangled up with my favourite Fife-based group of folks, the Fence Collective. They are currently promising to add a new album to their previous albums, “I Can Dancing and Walking” and “Everything Has to End Somewhere”. However as they warn on their website this is subject to distractions which may or may not include chasing butterflies down country lanes and possibly seeking treatment for an addiction to herbal teas.

Fifty advance copies are available on CDR for a small fee of £9 or £10 and will include one or two tracks that won't be on the final album when it is released in September 2007.

The rest of the albums are available at their online store and they do accept international orders. I also noticed that “I Can Dancing and Walking” is available on itunes. For fans of free music, there are two tracks available on their Last.fm page and preview some of their tracks on their myspace.

As a byline, Miss Ping also paints some pretty paintings. My favourite being, Retreat from the Glowing Tree, which has the feel of “Judy and The Dream of Horse” about it - Ryan
